The Mauryan period saw brilliant achievement in architecture.
Patliputra was surrounded by high walls. The royal assembly building was made of wood with 84 pillars. Monolithic pillars are examples of the skills of the Mauryan artists.The Lion Capital of Sarnath and The Great Stupa at Sanchi were also built during the Mauryan reign.
