1. The mahajanpadas set up large kingdoms whereas the farmer's life was not like theirs. They had to earn their life by hard labour and provide some or half portion to the kingdom as revenue. 

2. The farmers did not keep records of what they did whereas the mahajanpadas kept records of their battles and their victories.
