Neil Bohr's Atomic Model :

  • Bohr's Atomic model was only applicable for the elements such as Hydrogen and some other elements like hydrogen.
  • He described that the nucleus of an atom is present at the centre constituting proton and neutron collectively called nucleons.
  • Also, electrons do revolve around the nucleus in an atom.
  • Electrons can't revolve in orbit of their choice as they can revolve in the orbits that have their angular momentum equals to integral multiples of h/2π.
  • The orbits that have their angular momentum equals to integral multiples of h/2π have a speciality that electron don not loose their energy while revolving in these orbits. These circular paths are known as Stationary Orbits.
  • Each orbit is associated with energy therefore this energy increases as we go from lower to higher orbits.
  • When an electron jump from lower to higher orbit it absorb some energy and this energy is known as excitation energy.
  • When an electron jump from higher energy level to lower energy level it loose some energy and this is known as de- excitation energy.

Hence, this is how Bohr explained about the stability of an atom.
