a) Melting point - The melting point of a substance is the temperature at which a solid and liquid phase may coexist in equilibrium and the temperature at which matter changes from liquid to solid form. The term applies to pure liquid and solutions. Melting point depends on pressure, so it should be specified. Melting point is also known as liquefaction point.

b) Boiling point - The temperature at which the pressure gets exerted by the surrounding upon a liquid is equaled by the pressure exerted by the vapour of the liquid;under this condition , addition of heat results in the transformation of the liquid into its vapour without raising the temperature.
