Algae are aquatic green plants found in puddles, streams, ponds and oceans as bright green layer on the surface. Algae may be single celled multi-celled or colonial. These are plant like organisms containing chlorophyll. On the basis of pigments they are classified into the following three types:

★GREEN ALGAE contain only chlorophyll.

★BROWN ALGAE contain brown pigment along with chlorophyll.

★RED ALGAE contains red and blue pigments along with chlorophyll.
