Describe briefly about Rabi , Kharif and Zaid Crops .

Zaid crops

In the Indian sub-continent, crops grown on irrigated lands which do not have to wait for monsoons, in the short duration between Rabiand Kharif crop season, mainly from March to June, are "Zaid crops". These crops are mainly grown in the summer season during a period called the "Zaid crop season." They require warm dry weather for major growth period and longer day length for flowering. The main produce are seasonal fruits and vegetables they are sown during the months of March and harvested by June and July.


Rabi crop


Rabi crops or rabi harvest are agricultural crops that are sown in winter and harvested in the spring in South Asia. The term is derived from the Arabic word for "spring", which is used in the Indian subcontinent, where it is the spring harvest (also known as the "winter crop").

Kharif crop

Kharif crops or monsoon crops are domesticated plants that are cultivated and harvested in India, Pakistan and Bangladeshduring the rainy season, which lasts from June to October depending on the area.

Kharif Crops

The Kharif crop is the summer crop or monsoon crop in India.

Sown in :  beginning of the first rains in July
Harvested :  during the rainy (monsoon) season , between April and October


Major Kharif crops of India include Rice, Millets (Bajra and Jowar), Maize, Mung bean, Groundnut, Red Chillies, Cotton, Soyabean, Sugarcane, Turmeric ,Urad bean etc.


Rabi Crops

The Rabi crop is the spring harvest or winter crop in India .
Sown in: Winter ( Last of October)
Harvested in : Spring (March, April)

Major Rabi crops in India include Wheat, Barley, Mustard, Gram, Sesame, Peas, Sunflower, Coriander, Tomato, Onion, Potato, Oat etc.



Zaid Crop

This crop is grown in some parts of country during March to June.

 Major Zaid crops in India are Watermelon, Muskmelon, , bitter gourd, pumpkin, cucumber  etc.
