Answer:

Shahjahan contributed a lot to the extension of the Mughal Empire by first making successes against the south Indian states. By 1636, he included Ahmadnagar and forced Golconda and Bijapur to become its tributaries.

The Mughal domination was also extended in the northwest during his reign. In 1638, the Persian governor of Kandahar, Ali Mardan Khan, finally surrendered his fortress to the Mughals.

The Mughal forces occupied Badakhshan and Balkh in 1646, but in 1647 Balkh had to be relinquished. Attempts to reconquer it happened in 1649, 1652, and 1653 but all of them failed.

Shah Jahan had also transferred his capital to Delhi from Agra in 1648. He made the new city of Shahjahanabad over there.
