the characteristic of musical sound are:-
1. PITCH - The pitch depends upon frequency.The low frequency is called the low pitch and the high frequency is called the high pitch.
2.LOUDNESS - The loudness depends upon the intensity of the sound.The higher is the intensity of the sound the higher will be the loudness.
3. QUALITY OR TIMBER - It measures the complexity of the sound.

Loudness refers to how loud or soft the sound seems to the listener. The loudness is in turn determine by the intensity or the amount of energy in the sound waves.
The intensity of the sound is the results of two factors :-
- the amplitude of the sound waves
- how far they have traveled form the source sound
The unit of intensity is decibel (dB). As decibel level gets higher, sound waves have greater intensity which results in loud sound. For every 10 decibel increase in intensity the loudness is 10 times greater.
