when pollen grain falls on the stigma it grows a pollen tube downwards into the style . the pollen tube carrying the 2 male gamets enter the embrey sac to micropyle end

after entering into the embrey sac , pollen tube releases 2 female gamets . one of the male gamet fertilize with the female gamets and forms zygote . this process is called syngamy

the other male gamets fuse with 2 polar nuclia . this is called triple fusion

thus , in the embrey sac of the ovule , 2 fusions , syngamy and triple fusion takes place .

this process of 2 fusion of gamets taking place in a embrey sac side by side and hence termed as double fertilization
