The time Franks, van Daans spent in the Secret Annexe was a time of trial and tribulations for the inmates during the second World war. However, occasionally Anne writes about mundane incidents hat lend authenticity to the diary. One of such incidents is when Mr. Borks managed to get twenty-four crates to be used by the people at the office and the inmates of the Secret Annexe. They canned some of them. Anne writes her father makes strawberry jam every evening. They had strawberry with breakfast, strawberry with buttermilk, strawberry in lunch and strawberry as sweets.
