Sardar Sarovar Dam
The Sardar Sarovar Project is one of the largest water resources project of India covering four major states - Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan. Dam's spillway discharging capacity (30.7 lakhs cusecs) would be third highest in the world.
With 1133 cumecs (40000 cusecs) capacity at the head regulator, and 532 km. length, the Narmada Main Canal would be the largest irrigation canal in the world.

The Narmada project:
- The Narmada project or now popularly know as Sardar Sarovar Dam is a gravity dam project built on river Narmada near Navagam in Gujarat.
- The foundation stone for the project was established by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961 and was funded by World Bank in 1979.
- However, Narmada Bachao Andolan owing to large scale environmental damage and people’s displacement was started which resulted in the stalling of the project by Supreme Court in 1995.
- Finally, the project got completed in 2018 and benefited the people and electricity generation. However, news regarding village flooding and displacement of people is still common.
