The principle is electromagnetic induction.
Core is laminated to avoid eddy losses
Hope it helps

the principal of transformer is:--
- faraday law of electromagnetic induction.
- faraday law of electromagnetism state that :-
- The electromotive force around a closed path is equal to the negative of the time rate of change of the magnetic flux enclosed by the path.
- magnetic flux is denoted by -fi.
- fi = Bvector. Avector dot product.
- Its core is laminated because :-
- The score is eliminated to reduce this to a minimum as they interface with the efficient transfer of energy from the primary coil to the secondary coil.
- eddyd current cause energy to feed off from the transformer dey reduce meaning electrical energy invested into heat energy.
