Lord Dalhousie began the final stage of annexations. He devised a policy called the Doctrine of Lapse. This gave the Britishers a major territorial advantage. This way, Dalhousie annexed Satara, Nagpur, Jhansi and many other kingdoms. Another pretext used by Dalhousie to annex territories in India was misgovernment. Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh was accusd of misrule and reluctance to introduce reforms. This way, Awadh was annexed in 1856. This is how Dalhousie annexed a lot of kingdoms.
