Characteristics of Particles of matter :

The particles of matter are very small.

The particles of matter have space between them.

The particles of matter are constantly moving.

The particles of matter attract each other.

☞︎︎︎ Explanation -

1. Particles of matter are very small :

All forms of matter are made up of very small particles which are not visible to naked eye .

\: \: \: \: \: For Example: When use dissolve few crystals of potassium permanganate in water and dilute the solution 4 to 5 times , we will observe that even on

continued dilution , potassium permanganete retains colour, but the Intensity of purple colour decreases with ditution.

So we can conclude that each potassium permanganate

crystal is made up of very - very large number of small

particles which impart colour to the solution.

2. The particles of matter have space between them :

\: \: \: \: \: For Example: On dissoluing sugar/salt in water, the sugar particles dissolue in watter without any change in its volume.

This is because sugar particles go into the spaces between the particles of water.

So we can conclude that particles of matte have

space between them.

3. The particles of matters are constantly moving :

The particles of matter are not stationery, they are in continues motion.

\: \: \: \: \: For Example: When we burn an incense stick in the corner of a room , the fragrance spread in the entire room.

This is because particles of incense Stick intermix with the particles of air and quickly spread through out the room

4 .The particles of matter attract each other :

The particles of matters have rertain force of attraction between them which keeps them together , this force of attraction is called inter particle or Cohesion force.

For Example - if we take a peice of chalk

an iron nail or rubber band and if we try to break them or stretch will observe that it is very easy to stretch the rubber band and it is easy to break the chalk and its

very difficult to break the iron nail .

So we can say that there are intar particle forces in

the matter which varies from matter to matter.
