Corporal Turnbull was a fierce and disciplined soldier who was not to be messed with. He did not like to get additional knowledge from his students whom he was supposed to teach. He was strict but a favourite teacher of students. He is described as their 'hero'
He had recently returned from Dunkirk with all his equipment accounted for and also hid his anger unless he was provoked.
