In Charles Dickens Victorian creation, "David Copperfield"; the life of a young boy David is being narrated. Some part of his life is spent at a boarding school named, "Salem's House"

David's life at the Salem's house had been deplorable except for the friends he made there. The headmaster Mr. Creakle was informed that David was an ill mannered boy. Hence, he was beaten by the headmaster every now and then without any reason.

Despite being ridiculed and beaten, he became friends with James Steerforth, a charming young boy who impressed everyone even the headmaster. And, Tommy Traddles, a boy of good nature who drew skeletons when upset.

David spent two terms at the boarding school. He left for Suffolk, when he came to know about the death of his mother and baby brother.
