Hot desert plants look very different compared to the plants in other regions. The plants are small, bushy and often swollen, spiny and have tiny leaves that are not bright green because of the scarcity of water and extreme temperature. These plants have leaves in the form of spines to reduce loss of water by transpiration. In these plants, stems perform the function of photosynthesis. Stems are covered with a waxy layer, which reduces the loss of water.

Cold deserts are located at high altitude, cold desert experiences extremely cold and dry weather. The day temperatures in summer are just above zero degree and the night temperatures well below –30°C. In some areas only few plants are seen while other areas may be covered by more vegetation. The plants found their are grasses, shadscale and camel’s thorn. The most plants are small and deciduous with spiny leaves. This spiny leaves prevent the snow from accumulating on the plants.
