Louis XVI belonged to Burboun dynasty of France. He succeeded his father and became the king at the age of 17 years. He married to Austrian Princess Marie Antoinette. When he became king, the treasury of France was empty. France had a debt of over 2 billion livers(french currency). So, to pay the interest of the loans, he increased the taxes on the people of the France. At that time only the people of 3rd Estate paid taxes. The price of bread and goods started increasing due to bad harvest and increasing population. This led to the Subsistence Crisis.

This was also the reason for French Revolution.
