Lieutenant Colonel Dhan Singh Thapa, PVC (10 April 1928 – 6 September 2005) was an Indian Army officer, and recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration.[3] Thapa was commissioned into the 1st Battalion, 8 Gorkha Rifles in 1949.

India's highest sporting honour Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is named after him. Dhyan Chand was born in Allahabad on 29 August 1905 in a Rajput family. He was the elder brother of another hockey player Roop Singh, and the son of Sharadha Singh and Sameshwar Singh.
