The rainfall all over the world is unequally distributed.
⇒ Rainfall near the equator is high .
Regions of high rainfall - equatorial zone , the monsoon area of Southeast Asia.
Regions of less rainfall - desert regions of the subtropics and around the poles.

  • Between the latitudes 10° and 30°N and S of the equator, due to the 'trade winds', rainfall is heavier on the Eastern coasts and decrease towards the west.

  • Between the latitude 40° and 60° N and S of the equator due to the 'westerlies' the rainfall is heavy on the west coast and decrease towards the east.

  • Low pressure areas especially around the equator, receive high rainfall than high pressure areas.

  • The rainfall is more over the oceans than on the continent.
