During a single cycle blood goes twice in the heart which is known as double circulation. It is necessary in human being to separate oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood because this makes their circulatory system is more efficient and helps in maintaining constant body temperature.

In case of reptiles and critters , they donot need to maintain their temperature as they are cold blooded and their temp. remains the same as the external temp.

But in case of higher animals like mammals, aves, they need to separate the deoxygenated and oxygenated blood of efficient utilisation of oxygen which is useful for maintaining the internal temperature.
