Double Fertilization

It is a process that occurs in angiosperms (flowering plants).

In the process, one of the two male gametes (n) fertilizes with the female egg cell (n) to form the zygote (2n), which develops to form an embryo and ultimately the plant. This is known as fertilization or syngamy.

The other male gamete (n) fuses with two polar nuclei (2n) to form the triple nucleus (3n), which develops to form the endosperm, which provides nutrition to the growing seed, when the seed is sown. This fusion is known as tripple fertilization.
