National Highways :- The National highways in India are a network of trunk roads owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It is constructed and managed by the National Highway Authority of India, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation, and the public works departments of state governments.

State Highways :- The state highways are usually roads that link important cities, towns and district headquarters within the state and connect them with National Highways or state highways of neighbouring states.

District roads :- District roads means highways, streets, roads, alleys, intersection improvements, sidewalks, bike or cart paths, crossings, landscaping, irrigation, signage, signalization, storm drains, bridges, multi-use trails, lighting, and thoroughfares of all kinds.

Village Roads :- These connect villages or a cluster of villages with each other and with the nearest road of a higher category.

Border Road :- Border Roads are the roads constructed along the northern and northeastern borders of our country. These roads are constructed and maintained by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which was set up in 1960 by the government of India.
