In the electrolytic refining pure copper is taken as cathode and impure is taken as anode and electrolyte is taken as copper sulphate solution when electricity is passed through the solution equivalent amount of pure goes to anode and the remaining waste is settled at the bottom of anode known as anode mud. this is the electrolytic refining of copper

The electrolytic refining of copper. The electrolyte is a solution of acidified copper sulphate. The anode is impure copper, whereas, the cathode is a strip of pure Copper. On passing electric current ,pure Cooper is deposited on the cathode.
