It is a zone of low pressure due to frequently rising air due to intense heating.

- Due to the heating and rising of air, clouds are formed hence it experiences frequent rainfall.

- Due to high amounts of energy and solar heating, moisture condenses quickly hence rain in this zone is in form of storm.

- It shifts around the equator due to the earth's rotation hence some parts receive sunshine and heat at different times.

- The shifting of wind patterns move thermal energy and moisture to different parts of the earth which sometimes slow down ocean currents thus affecting rainfall patterns.

ITCZ plays an important part in monsoon patterns and affects the weather of the equatorial regions.

Explanation:

  • ITCZ is the intertropical convergence zone and is also called doldrums or the winds of calm due to forms a windless or motionless area and here the northeast and southeast trade winds converge.
  • ITCZ merges with the monsoonal winds that are commonly found in Asia and Australia. Their direction changes according to the Coriolis force which is impacted by the rotation of the earth.
  • ITCZ gradually varied with the change of seasons but it's associated with the movement of the change of the thermal equator region.
  • It plays a great role in the formation of thunderstorms as it migrates from the subtropical to tropical latitudes.
  • The seasonal shifts are mainly found in the equatorial region and they are manifested by the development of ITCZ which can lead to several draughts and floods in nearby areas.
