In the late 19th Century the french society was divided into 3 parts...
The first and the second estate consisted of the clergy and the nobility.
⏺The clergy and nobility enjoyed all the privileges of the system.The most important that they were free of paying tax.
On the other hand they collected tax from the third estate people.
The third estate people comprised of the most of the population.They consisted of lawers,doctors ,peasants, artisans and merchants.
They had to pay all the taxes like indirect tax from church and some direct tax from the goverment.
