There are three main functions of the gastrointestinal tract, including transportation, digestion, and absorption of food.
Answer:
The salivary glands, liver and gall bladder, and the pancreas aid the processes of ingestion, digestion, and absorption. These accessory organs of digestion play key roles in the digestive process.
Salivary gland- The salivary glands are located in several areas around the mouth and have ducts connected to both the upper and lower jaw. This ensures that salivaevenly coats the inner lining of the mouth. You can feel the end of these ducts just below your tongue and along the inside of your upper lip.
Liver- It removes toxins from the body's blood supply, maintains healthy blood sugar levels, regulates blood clotting, and performs hundreds of other vital functions. It is located beneath the rib cage in the right upper abdomen.
Gall bladder- The gall bladder is a pear-shaped, hollow structure located under the liver and on the right side of the abdomen. Its primary function is to store and concentrate bile, a yellow-brown digestive enzyme produced by the liver. The gall bladder is part of the biliary tract.
