Describe giving reasons and examples
for the following methods of separation
of mixtures
2. Winnowing.
b. Sieving,
c. Sedimentation,
d. Coagulation
e. Evaporation,
f. Filtration
Answers
Answer:
1. Winnowing is the process of separating lighter particle by the help of wind.
2. Sieving is used to separate small particles from sand
3. Sedimentation is the process in which heavier substance gather at the bottom of the container
4 evaporation is used to convert liquid into gas as, a result it produces cooling
Answer:
(a) Winnowing is used for separating a mixture of things with different weights like a farmer separates wheat from its husk by winnowing.
(b) sieving is used to separate a mixture of something big in size from something small in size like separating remains of tea seeds from tea.
(c) sedimentation is used in separating mixtures in which substances have different densities or sometimes separating an insoluble solute from solvent like mixture of sand and water
(e) evaporation is used to separate a mixture of a soluble solute from solvent like salt from water. It is a part of distillation.
(f) filtration is a process which uses filter paper or a substance which can filter the solute from solvent.
