Gravity separation is an industrial method of separating two components, either a suspension, or dry granular mixture where separating the components with gravity is sufficiently practical: i.e. the components of the mixture have different specific weight.

Gravity seperation-concentration of ore based on specific gravity of ore and gangue particles

when a stream of water is passed on a conveyer belt where both gangue and ore are placed
1.lighter gangue particles are carried away by water while heavier gangue particles settle down

this process is also called as levigation..
