Lemuel Gulliver, surgeon to Antelope, sets sail to the south sea on May 4th, 1699, and their voyage at first was very prosperous. But when they were on their way to the East Indies , they were driven by a violent storm to the north - west of Van Diemen's land. By an observation they found themselves in the latitude of thirty degree and two minutes south. Twelve of their crew members were dead by immoderate labour and ill food and the rest were in a very weak condition. On 5th Nov, the seamen spied a rock within their reach. But wind was so strong that their ship was driven directly upon it and immediately split. Six of the crew, somehow managed to shift into an another boat that too overset by a sudden flurry from the north. And this accident made Gulliver helpless and then Gulliver relied himself on the mercy of wind and tide.
