ans: Harvey Maxwell was an efficient and busy broker in New York. A day in his busy office made him forgetful and preoccupied with his work. During the working hours in the busy broker's office, coils of tapes would pour out of the ticker machine endlessly, and the telephone would buzz constantly. Men would begin to crowd in his office and call him over the railing warmly, sharply, angrily, or excitedly. The messenger boys would run in and out with messages and telegrams. Even the clerks would jump about like sailors during a storm. Maxwell on the other hand went about his business like a toe dancer. He jumped from ticker to phone, from desk to door, nimble and fragile.

The day was filled with people and calls leaving him tired.

  • The question has been asked from the story The Romance of a Busy Broker by O. Henry
  • During business hours, coils of tape continuously poured out of the ticker machine in the bustling broker's office.
  • His office was also crammed with personnel bringing on different queries.
  • The office's staff moved around like sailors in a storm.
  • Maxwell conducted himself in business like a toe dancer, moving with agility and nimbleness from ticker to telephone, desk to the door.
