Helen was nineteen months old when the illness took over her and plunged her world in darkness. She was diagnosed with what was called the acute congestion of the stomach and brain, as a result of which she lost her sight and her hearing. All that Helen remembered was the brightness of spring, the chirping of birds, and an autumn, where she saw the beauty of roses, apart from that the only word that she remembered was 'water', which she pronounced as 'wah-wah' up until the time she learned how to spell.
