In the poem, “The Heart of the Tree”, the poet Henry Cuyler Bunner explains the purpose and the good thoughts and wishes behind planting a tree by the people.
The poet begins the poem by asking what the person plants by planting a tree. In his replies, he answers that the person who plants the trees not only plant trees but also plant a friend, cool shade, a home, joy, and so on. In the third stanza, the poet mentions that a person plants a "far-cast thought of civic good".
Here, the poet means that the person foresees the goodness because of the trees for the citizens in his place. He whole-heartedly plants the trees for the well-being of the future generation.
