its function is to transmit sound from the air to the ossicles inside the middle ear and then to the oval window in the fluid - filled cochlea hence it ultimately converts and amplifies vibration in air to vibration in fluid

Sound waves hit the eardrum and cause vibration, which then vibrates the ossicles, which vibrate the innerear. The inner ear turns these vibrations into electrical signals, whichare then sent to the brain through the nerve of hearing. The brain interprets the electrical signals as sound.
