usually cactus grow in dry barren areas or deserts but in deserts their is a loss of water so to save water the leaves of cactus plants are modified into spines so that it can prevent the loss of water by transpiration
it is able to avoid transpiration as the surface area of spines are less than leaves so less water is getting evaporated
it also has big roots which can go deep in the soil in search of water
so these are the ways in which cactus can store and conserve water
