Charles Darwin had collected innumerable specimens of plants and animals and depending upon the observation of these species , he published the theory of natural selection which preaches survival for fittest.
while explaining the concept , Darwin says that all the organisms reproduce prolifically. all the organisms compete with each other in a life threatening manner. in this competition only those organisms sustain which show the modification essential for winning the competition. however besides this , natural selection and the rest perish. sustaining the selected organisms can perform reproduction and thereby give rise to the new species and give rise to the new species with their own specific characters. Darwin's natural theory of selection was widely accepted for longer duration . however some objections were raised :
1. natural selection is not the factor responsible for evolution.
2. darwin did not mention any explanation about useful and useless modification.
3. there is no explanation about slow and abrupt changes.
irrespective to all these objections , darwins work on evolution has been

The theory of natural selection proposed by Darwin in the year 1859 (Darwinism) : This theory states that the organisms evolution through natural selection and accumulation of inheritable variations.

Some of the features of the theory are :-

1. Limited food and space:- continuous consumption of food causes scarcity and even population of different species cannot increase their consumption beyond a certain limit.

2. Struggle for existence:- It is said, “Survival of the fittest”. So there are always competition going on among organisms for resources.

3. Variations:- New species arrive when there are variations such as in structure, size and physiology.

4. Inheritance of useful variations:- Next generation acquires the same process to get variations and natural selection. And formation of new variations by accumulations completely produces new species.
