Describe how hydro -energy can be converted into electrical energy.

Water is stored in dams to create potential energy. When water is released from sluice gates this potential energy is converted to kinetic energy. The kinetic energy then gives motion to the turbines to turn its shaft which then converts kinetic energy to electrical energy.

The force of the running water (kinetic energy of running water) causes the turbines of the plant to spin. The rotating turbines then spin the generator, which ultimately produces electricity.
