★Retting of the stems:-
During resting of the jute plants, the stems of these plants are tied into bunches. The bunches are kept in stagnant water for a few days. During this period , the stems rot and a gum like substance that binds the stems together get destroyed . This process is called retting.
Fibres are then separated from manually (done with the hands). After this , the fibres are dried out in the sun for 3-4 days. Jute fibres are then sent to the jute mills.
