Some of the prominent rainwater harvesting methods in India are

  1. Khadins and johads In arid ane semi arid regions, agricultural fields were converted into rain fed storage structures that followed the water to stand and moisture in the soil like the khadins in Jaisalmer and johads in other parts of Rajasthan
  2. Rooftop rainwater water harvesting: People living in the regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat, where rainfall is scanty have used rooftop rainwater harvesting system since many years to store drinking water.
  3. Bonkers aw thanks: the tanks inseminated and 18 regions of Rajasthan. Particularly in Bikaner and bur mail can store chain water that is local called parlour funny. Here they have used underground tanks for what is storage. The process is similar to the rooftop rainwater harvesting system. The tanks could be large as a big room; one household in Faludi had a tank that was 6.1 m deep, 4.27 m long and 2.44 m wide. Some also build underground rooms adjacent to the tanks for cooling effectIn summer.
  4. Inundation channel: In floodplains of Bengal, people develop inundation Channels irrigate their fields.
  5. Guls and kuls: in hilly and mountainous regions, people build diversion channels to collect rainwater, spring water and Store circular tanks like inverted, Store circular tanks like Gul’s and kuls For example western Himalayan that is Himachal Pradesh for agriculture.
  6. Bamboo drip irrigation system: the system of irrigating plants is in use for 200 years in Meghalaya. It is old system of utilising streams and three spring waters by using bamboo pipes is first up in the system bamboos are used in place of pipes. Spring water From the hill slopes, flows into the bamboo pipes which is then transported to the distance long through the same pipe. About 18-20 litres of water enter the bamboo pipes system, gets transported over hundreds of metres and finally it reduces to 2218 drops per minute at a site of the plant.
