It is a short story by Ruskin Bond that narrates deeply about the bond among the black cherry tree, Rakesh and his grandpa.
Rakesh is a eight year old boy living with his grandpa in Mussoorie. His parents in remote area as he has to school, he is living with his grandpa whose house is nearer to school. When he was 4-year old, he brought a cherry from shopkeeper and after eating he pressed the seend into the ground. Slowly the cherry seed starts to grow and Rakesh is passionate to grow the tree. He is so connected to the cherry tree as it is grown by him. Due to some circumstances, the cherry tree becomes weak but as the tree is as strong as Rakesh will. After 4 years, the tree is fully grown and blossomed, the cherry was little bitter at early but it tasted well.
As they saw how the tree is growing lively they develop a pleasant feeling for nature and its creatures
