The Himalayan mountain range and Tibetan plateau have formed as a result of the collision between the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate which began 50 million years ago and continues today.

1. there was a land form on earth called pangea . it divided into two parts called angaraland and second called Gondwanaland . 2. between both the land there formed a waterbody called Tethys sea . it was shallow , long and narrow .
3. the trans Himalayan rivers ( satluj, Indus, bhramhaputra ) used to deposit sediment s in the Tethys sea.
4. due to convection currents the Indian plate moved towards the Tethys sea.
5. the Indian plate clashed with the Tethys sea . the Tethys sediments rose up and the Indian plate slides beneath it . that's how Himalayas were formed .
