Million of year ago , the Himalayas were occupied by a geosyncline known as Tethys . It was sandwiched between two long landmasses - Angara land on the north and Godwana land on the south . The Tethys sea streched over Northern plains in east-west directions .For million of years , sediments were deposited in Tethys sea . These sediments were folded to form the Himalayas .
