It is a imaginary line which is used to check the poverty condition of the country as it based on the per capita income of a person if a person earns 4300rs (in india) in a month then he/she is above poverty line while who earns less than it, consider to be a Below poverty line..It check the Condition of a country as well the literacy rate along with Employed peoples of the country. ..

poverty line estimated by national income and per capita income.Some organization as like as Stanley,UN surveying in different countries and prepare a report.In Global Hunger Index India's rank 100 out of 119.so you can assume how much poverty inside our country.
