Answer:

Organizational behaviour (OB) is the study of human behaviour in organizational settings, the interface between human behaviour and the organization, and the organization itself.

OB research can be categorized in at least three ways:

Individuals in organizations (micro-level)

Work groups (meso-level)

How organizations behave (macro-level)

Chester Barnard recognized that individuals behave differently when acting in their organizational role than when acting separately from the organization. Organizational behaviour researchers study the behaviour of individuals primarily in their organizational roles. One of the main goals of organizational behaviour is to revitalize organizational theory and develop a better conceptualization of organizational life.

A variety of methods are used in organizational behaviour, many of which are found in other social sciences.

Quantitative Methods:

Statistical methods used in OB research commonly include correlation, analysis of variance, meta-analysis, multilevel modelling, multiple regression, structural equation modelling, and time series analysis.

Computer Simulation:

Computer simulation is a prominent method in organizational behaviour. While there are many uses for computer simulation, most OB researchers have used computer simulation to understand how organizations or firms operate.

Qualitative Methods:

Qualitative methods can range from the content analysis of interviews or written material to written narratives of observations. Common methods include ethnography, case studies, historical methods, and interviews.

Organizational Behaviour addresses the following points:

Organizational behaviour studies the factors that impact individual and group behaviour in organizations and how organizations manage their environments.

The study of organizational behaviour can improve and change individual, group, and organizational behaviour to attain individual, group, and organizational goals.

Organizational behaviour can be analysed at three levels: the individual, the group, and the organization as a whole. A full understanding must include an examination of behavioural factors at each level.

A manager’s job is to use the tools of organizational behaviour to increase effectiveness, an organization’s ability to achieve its goal.
