Describe How the stress response can protect an individual
Answers
The stress response causes the body to secrete stress hormones (adrenaline, cortisol, norepinephrine, and others) into the bloodstream where they travel to targeted spots in the body to bring about specific physiological, psychological, and emotional changes that enhance the body's ability to deal with the threat
The stress response performs in three stages to protect an individual. They are:
Alarm stage:
In alarm stage, if the person senses something danger, the stress reponse is triggered. This leads to secretion of 'stress harmone' into the blood where these stress harmone travel to the spots which is targeted. This brings some pyschological, physiological and emotional changes which enables the body to deal with threat.
Resistance stage:
Stress response changes gives an extra 'energy boost' to the body so that it could deal with threat.
Exhaustion stage:
Stress response ends when the stress vanishes and these harmones are expelled. Now, the body will enter a recovery phaase and rebuild its 'energy'.
