✔Hypothalamus is known as the master of master endocrine gland.
✔It is the connective link between endocrine system and the nervous system.
✔It is located in the basal part of diencephalon,forebrain.
✔It is connected to the pituitary gland via infundibulum. It is connected to anterior pituitary lobe by hypophyseal portal veins and to the posterior lobe via the axons of neurosecretory cells.
✔Neurosecretory cells of hypothalamic nuclei are called neurohormones.
✔The hormones produced by the hypothalamus are of two types: releasing hormones which stimulate the secretion of pituitary hormones and inhibiting hormone which inhibits the secretion of pituitary hormones.
