• Mrs. Van Daan is a spoiled woman who anticipates everyone to behave as she does.

• She particularly does not like Anne due to Anne being a very frank person.  

• Mrs. Van Daan feels that children should not express their feelings on any subject, because they do not have the proficiency to draw upon that adults do.

• The Van Daans were in hiding with the Franks in the Secret Annex.  
• Dated August 14, 1942, Anne mentioned that the Van Daans first arrived on July 13th.
• She seemed to care much about her appearance and possessions, for Anne mentioned that she arrived "carrying a hatbox with a large chamber pot inside".
• She also mentioned that the van Daans fight a lot, something which Anne hardly saw in her parents.
• She was envious of the birthday gift that Mrs. Frank got, while she did not seem to get anything on her own birthday.
• Mrs. Van Daan also seems to care more about her material things for she refuses to sell her coats when they had run out of supplies.
