Mitochondria are membrane-bound cell organelles (mitochondrion, singular) that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cell's biochemical reactions. Chemical energy produced by the mitochondria is stored in a small molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

|| Mitochondria ||

These are the small rod like structure found in all the cell (Plant cell as well as the animal cell).

  • They provide energy for all activities.
  • This energy is produced by the oxidation of food(respiration). Thus, they are often called powerhouse of the cell.

Mitochondria is a part of cell organelle. cell organelle is are the small structure which are scattered in the cytoplasm. Various type of cell organelles present in the cell perform different functions.

  • Chemical energy produced by the Mitochondria is stored in a small molecule called (ATP).
  • ATP stands for Adenosine triphosphate.
  • Mitochondria has double membrane, the inner part being folded inwards to form layers (cristae).

MORE TO KNOW :

Cytoplasm is a thick jelly like fluid present inside the cell.

  • Bounded by the cell membrane.
  • It occupies the space between the cell membrane and the nucleus.
  • All the chemical reaction of the cell occur in the cytoplasm.
  • There are many small cytoplasmic bodies suspended in the cytoplasm.
  • These are like mitochondria, Golgi bodies, ribosomes endoplasmic reticulum etc.
