As we know India is a great country with more great diversity. Thus diversity is also seen in its language. As we know there are many communities who use different languages. So by making one language official language of India would be not a good idea. So that's why there is no official language of India but mostly hindi and English is used in official work of government. moreover indian states have their own liberty and power of choosing their official languages through legislation and 22 officially languages are recognised by the government.

Language policy of India :

Our Constitution did not give the status of national language to any one language.Hindi was identified as the official language. But Hindi is the mother tongue of only about 40 per cent of Indians. Much of the government work takes place in the official language of the concerned State.
