describe in brief the nitrogen cycle in nature
Answers
Nitrogen Cycle is a biogeochemical process which transforms the inert nitrogen present in the atmosphere to a more usable form for living organisms.

Answer:
In the atmosphere, Nitrogen(N₂) gas is present in 78% of the air. This nitrogen follows a certain cycle in nature. This cycle can be briefed as:
1) Plants cannot consume nitrogen directly from the atmosphere. So, there are some specific bacteria (Rhizobium and Cyanobacteria), which are present in the soil. These bacteria convert nitrogen into its nitrogenous compounds and deposit them in the soil. These bacteria are also known as ‘nitrifying bacteria’.
Please Note:- This can also be done by lightning.
2) Nitrogen is then used by plants to grow and survive. The animals which eat these plants also have an uptake of this nitrogen and gets stored in their bodies.
3) When these plants or animals die, or animals excrete the plants in the form of urea, the nitrogen which had been utilised by them, goes back into the soil after decomposition.
4) Certain bacteria are present in the soil, which in turn, convert the nitrogenous compounds back into atmospheric nitrogen, making sure that the atmosphere does not get deprived of nitrogen. These bacteria are known as ‘denitrifying bacteria’, as they take away the nitrogen.
5) This way, the amount of nitrogen in soil a well as in the atmosphere remains constant.
This is the nitrogen cycle.
